Tourism can bear lots of economic benefits for a country, particularly in rural areas, but as it is known all the good things have a bad side, tourism also has negative effects. Touristry is only viable if it is carefully managed, but if it is not, it has negative effects on the environment and the local cultures of the country.
One of the negative effects that sightseeing brings is that it harms the environment. First of all, tourism increased pollution through different aspects as traffic emissions, littering, expanded sewage production, and also noise. Second of all, tourism infringes on citizen rights, with locals being removed from their places to make way for new builds as hotels or with cutting down trees to create new places for the visitors. In this manner, the tourism industry injures the surrounding of the country threatening the welfare of the community.
Another negative effect that tourism carries is that it damages local cultures. First, the interaction of dwellers with tourists can lead to an erosion of traditional cultures and values; for example, people from Easter Island are losing their mother tongue due to the tourist industry because they have to speak Spanish to interact with sightseers. Second, visitor’s behavior can have a destructive effect on the life's quality of the host community as crowding, drugs problems, or even heightened the crime level. Thus, tourism is harmful to the cultural heritage of the nation.
To conclude, the tourism is a growing up industry which needs some mechanism to control certain damages that it has in a country.
